LUCKY LYCRA ATTACKED, BUT WINS HER LISTED
Al Shaqab’s three year old filly Lucky Lycra won her first stakes race at Maisons Laffitte on September 4th, but only after surviving a vicious attack from her main rival the Wertheimer brothers’ Palomba. Lucky Lycra set out to make all the running in the Listed Prix Joubert and was strongly challenged in the final 100 metres by Palomba, however, when she drew alongside Lucky Lycra the Wertheimers’ filly turned her head and tried to bite first her rival and then her jockey Francois Xavier Bertras. Palomba failed to ger hold of either horse or jockey and was pulled away by her jockey Maxime Guyon conceeding the race to Lucky Lycra.
Lucky Lycra is the second stakes winner produced by her dam, the Pivotal mare Pearl Banks, from four foals of racing age. Her first foal Pearly Steph was a Listed winner over a mile for the Haras de Saint Pair. Pearl Banks is a daughter of the champion Pearly Shells and among others a half sister to Pearls Or Passion the dam of the 2019 Group winning filly Pelligrina. Pearl Banks has a filly foal by Dark Angel and is in foal to Shalaa. Lucky Lycra was sold as a yearling by the Haras de Saint Pair to Al Shaqab for 145.000 euros at the Arqana October sale.
