SAINT PAIR BRED DOUBLE AT SAINT CLOUD
Two Saint Pair breds followed each other into the winners’ enclosure at Saint Cloud on Tuesday, June 3rd. On his second career start the three year old gelding Panta Rei, 2022 Belardo – Pearly Steph (photo below after winning her Listed) held the late challenge of the favourite Tusker to win over 2100 metres for jockey Clement Lecoeuvre and trainer Pierre Groualle. Pnata Rei had been second on his debut a month earlier at Chantilly and improved significantly to win a well contested maiden by a head and 1/2 length. Panta Rei is a half brother to the Group winning filly Eternal Pearl. His dam Pearly Steph was a Listed winner over 1600 and is herself a half sister to the Group 1 winner Pearls Galore, from the family of the Saint Pair foundation mare, the Prix Vermeille winner Pearly Shells. Pearly Steph has a filly foal by Chaldean and is in foal to Zarak.
Half an hour earlier the Saint Pair bred two year old colt Segall 2023 c Sottsass – Spain Burg had made an impressive winning debut over 1400 metres for owner David Layani and trainer Andre Fabre. Segall made all the running and came away from his rivals in the straight to win unchallenged by 4 lengths in the hands of Christian Demuro. Segall was sold as a yearling at the Arqana August sale and is a son of Spain Burg, a Group 2 winner in England as a two year old herself.
