GYPSY GOLD MAKES BRILLIANT RETURN
Gypsy Gold returned from a six month layoff to break her maiden on her third career start at Compiegne on June 9th over 1600. The Haras de Saint Pair’s three year old Siyouni filly’s seasonal appearance had been delayed after a slight setback early in the year but she showed she is now ready to compete at a higher level with a brilliant 2 1/2 length victory under Coralie Pacaut. The Jean Claude Rouget trained filly was held up in last place in a race run at a good pace and when asked by Pacaut she readily ran past all of her opponents in the straight to win comfortably from the Aga Khan’s Siyouni filly Zanona and Prophetie, a full sister to the Champion Persian King close up in third. These three promising lighty raced fillies were 4 1/2 lengths clear of the remainder.
Gypsy Gold is the fifth foal and fifth winner produced by the Singspiel mare Glorious Sight, who was herself placed in both the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches and the Prix de Diane. She is a full sister to the prolific winner and stakes performer Glaer and a 1/2 sister to the Group 2 winner Glycon. Glorious Sight has a unraced two year old Le Havre filly who belongs to Al Shira’a Stables and a filly foal by Wootton Bassett. She was covered by Victor Ludorum this year. Saint Pair has retained two other daughters of Glorious Sight, the Pivotal mare Girl Friday and the Dansili mare Glad Eye.
