SICILIAN DEFENSE BREAKS MAIDEN ON SECOND START

Benjamin Teboul’s Sicilian Defense showed great courage and ability to break her maiden on her second career start at Compiegne on September 15th over 1400. Dropping back in trip after making a promising debut in Deauville the Yann Baraberot trained filly was held up in last place and passed the whole field, despite being stopped in her run more than once, to get up in the final metres and win by a neck and 1/2 length from Sparkle On and Enfant Rouge.

Sicilian Defense is the second foal of the More Than Ready mare Manasarova who was stakes placed at three in the colours of the Saint Pair. Sicilian Defense was sold by Saint Pair at the Arqana Select sale for 35.000€. Manasarova’s first foal the Oasis Dream filly Manadream was unraced following a paddock injury and is currently in foal to Kendargent. Manasarova has a yearling colt by Roaring Lion due to be sold in the Tattersalls October  sale.

Sicilian Defense is the second Saint Pair bred two year old winner from three runners to date who also include the promising winner Green Fly and Girl Gone Wild who was second on her only start to date.
