SICILIAN DEFENSE TAKES HER LISTED IN DEAUVILLE

Argella Racing’s Sicilian Defense was an easy winner of the Listed Prix Amandine over 1400 metres in Deauville on July 10th for trainer Yann Barberot and jockey Gregory Benoist. Held up behind the early leaders the daughter of Muharaar quickened impressively to sweep into a clear lead and win comfortably by 5/4 length and a neck. The Haras de Saint Pair bred filly was sold as a yearling for 35.000€ at the Arqana September sale in 2020. Sicilian Defense now has two wins and four places from nine starts to date and was also third in the Group 2 Prix Sandringham and second in the Listed Prix Montenica.

Sicilian Defense’s dam Manasarova was second in the Listed Prix Ronde de Nuit at Chantilly in the colours of Saint Pair when trained by Fabrice Chappet. Sicilian Defense is her second foal,  her first the Oasis Dream filly Manadream was unraced due to an accident before going into training. Manasarova was sold by Saint Pair at the 2019 Arqana December sale in foal to Roaring Lion for 240.000€ to Blue Diamond Stud.
