TWO NEW GROUP PERFORMANCES FOR SAINT PAIR
Gemini Stud’s three year old filly Sicilian Defense put up the performance of her career to date to finish third in the Group 2 Prix de Sandringham at Chantilly over 1600 metres on June 6th. The Yann Barberot trained filly had looked unlucky when finished a close up seventh and the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches at Longchamp in May and confirmed she is a high class filly finishing behind only Purplepay and Life in Motion beaten only 2 1/2 lengths and a neck and the first three puled clear of the remainder of the field. Denied a clear run when she was full of running with 200 metres to run the daughter of Muharaar looked as though she will be better still if returning to 1400 metres in the future.
The daughter of Muharaar and Manasarova was sold as a yearling at the Arqana Select sale for 35.000€ and the same draft as the winning Listed placed colt Green Fly. The ten Saint Pair bred three year olds of 2022 include five winners and three Group/stakes horses in Sicilian Defense, Green Fly and Eternal Pearl. Sicilian Defense has one win and four places from eleven starts to date for earnings of 87.000€.
On the same card the Haras de Saint Pair six year old Glycon returned to the races after a break following a disappointing run in Saudi Arabia at the beginning of the year and confirmed that he has retain all of his ability. Held up off the pace by jockey Jean Bernard Eyquem Glycon came with a fine run to take third place behind the high class colts Mare Australis and Bubble Gift beaten only two lengths and a length. Glycon’s first target this year will be a repeat victory in the Group 2 Grand Prix de Deauville at the end of August. The son of Le Havre and Glorious Sight has 6 wins and three places from 13 starts to date with earnings of 424.000€. Saint Pair will be offering his yearling full sister at the sales this year.
