URWALD SHOWS HIS CLASS
Brought back in trip after disappointing when racing too freely on his seasonal reappearance Urwald bounced back to win the Listed Prix du Pont Neuf over 1400 at ParisLongchamp on April 28th under a confident ride from PC Boudot. The three year old son of Le Havre and Waldjagd settled after a few hundred yards this time at the rear of the field before quickening brilliantly in the straight to pass his main rivals and win comfortably by 1 length from Becquagold with Simply Sriking and Epic Hero finishing together in third and fourth. Trainer Andre Fabre is likely to aim Urwald at Group races after this excellent performance.
Urwald is the third winner produced by her dam Waldjagd from her first three living foals. Waldjagd is a daughter of Observatory and the champion stayer Wurftaube from the famous ‘W’ family developed by Gestut Ravensberg. On April 28th two close relations won Group races with Waldgeist taking the Group 1 Prix Ganay and Winterfuchs the Group 3 Dr Busch Memorial. Waldjagd herself finished second in the Group 2 Diana Trial over 2000 on only her second career start. She has a two year filly by Muhaarar called Juxebox Dancer in training with Nicolas Clement, a yearling filly by Intello, a colt foal by Almanzor and is visiting Camelot.
