AMPERE CLOSE TO HIS GROUP 1

Grand Prix de Paris

The Haras de Saint Pair’s Ampere finished second in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp on July 14, beaten 2 lengths by the Niarchos family’s Erupt.

On only his third career start the Andre Fabre trained son of Galileo appeared unsuited to the slow early pace in the race and was still pulling for his head in the false straight 1600 from the post. In second last place when the six strong field entered the home straight Ampere was then unable to get a clear run at a crucial moment some 400 metres out. Once clear Ampere quickened impressively to take a clear second place but he was unable to challenge Erupt who had taken a winning lead while Ampere was trapped between horses.

‘I am very pleased with his performance,’ Andreas Putsch said after the race.’ There was some movement on the downhill run to the false straight which made him lose his balance momentarily. He finished very well nevertheless.’

Ampere’s dam Amorama’s last foal is a Lawman colt yearling. Ampere is entered in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
