GLYCON STEPS UP TO GROUP 1 PLACE
The Haras de Saint Pair’s Glycon, a five year old son of Le Havre, stepped up to Group 1 level with success at ParisLongchamp on October 24th finishing 3rd in the Prix Royal Oak only 4 1/2 lengths behind the three year old Scope with France’s leading stayer Skazino second. On this his first try over more than 2500 metres Glycon settled well not far behind the leaders and looked for a moment like taking a winning lead at the top of the straight. Glycon and Christian Demuro stayed on well to the line but couldn’t quite the match the finishing speed of Scope and Skazino, even if those who finished behind him included the Group 1 winning stayers Search for a Song and Call The Wind.
Glycon has continued to improve since being tried over longer distances and the beginning of the year and can now be ranked among the leading stayers in France and Europe. The five year old Jean Claude Rouget trained gelding will be aimed at the best races at around this distance in the future. Glycon now has 6 wins and 3 places from 11 starts and earnings of more than 400.000€. He is the winner of 3 Group races, and is now Group 1 placed.
