SAINT PAIR’S FIRST TWO YEAR OLDS SECOND AT SAINT CLOUD
The Haras de Saint Pair’s first two two year old runners of 2021 made their debut at Saint Cloud on May 19th for the Jean Claude Rouget stable, and both finished runner up. The colt Green Fly, owned by Jean Louis Bouchard who bought him at the Arqana September sale for 280.000€, was slow to start in the 1200 metre maiden for unraced two year old colts. The son of Frankel and the Listed winner Via Pisa didn’t join the rest of the field until they were making the turn into the home straight at which point he was still some 5 lengths behind the leaders.
Green Fly quickened well on the soft ground and ran the final 400 metres faster than any of his rivals. However he couldn’t quite make up the ground on Nirlitt and the son of Iffraaj held on to win by 1/2 length from Green Fly.
The filly Girl Gone Wild, a daughter of Showcasing and Girl Friday, like Via Pisa a daughter of Pivotal, raced in the colours of Saint Pair and was not offered for sale as a yearling. She is the second foal of her dam who was a winner at two herself and is half sister to the Group winner Glycon. Girl Gone Wild was always close to the leaders and looked to have the race won when she quickened into a clear lead with 200 metres to run. She seemed to loose her concentration and just flattered close home and was passed in the final metres and beaten a head by Zellie, a Wootton Bassett filly trained by Andre Fabre.
