TWO PROMISING DEBUTS FOR SAINT PAIR BREDS
Two Saint Pair bred two year olds have made their debuts in November so far, and both finishing a promising second. On Novemver 5th in Deauville Viola, a Lope de Vega filly out of Via Milano, made her debut over 1300 on the all weather. Racing in the colours of Clear Light Racing and trained by Francis Graffard Viola was faced by 11 other unraced two year olds. At the top of the short straight Viola had all eleven in front of her but the filly realised what was required and showed an impressive turn of foot to finish so fast she failed by only a head to catch the long time leader Khawaja. Viola finished second, four lengths ahead of the remainder of the field. The now retired Via Milano was a Group winning two year old herself and his the dam of Group horses Via Medici, the dam of Admire Mars, Via Manzoni and Via Ravenna. Her last foal Via Uli, a yearling Siyouni filly, is in training with Jean Claude Rouget for Saint Pair.
On November 9th Sous La Niege, a Shalaa colt out of Sesuko, made his debut in a Class 2 race at Saint Cloud over 1600, the colt who is owned in partnership by Saint Pair and Mme Elizabeth Fabre was taking four other experienced horses including three winners and the promising Wootton Bassett colt American Flag. The Andre Fabre trained Sous La Niege showed considerable promise to be second, no match for American Flag who won easily, but finishing in front of the three previous winners. Sous La Niege is the first foal of the unraced Shamardal mare Setsuko, a half sister to the Group winner Soleil Marin. Setsuko’s only other foal is a 2022 colt by Oasis Dream. Sous La Niege was bought back for 10.000€ at the 2021 Arqana August sale while Viola was sold in a private deal after being bought back for 100.000€ at the Arqana October sale.
