WALDBIENE WINS GROUP 2 IN BADEN BADEN

Waldbiene, Stall Graffenberg’s three year old daughter of Intello and Waldjagd came from behind to win the Group 2 T von Zastrow Stutenpreis at Baden Baden on September 4th only her fourth career start. Trained in Cologne by Waldemar Hickst Waldbiene was making her first start in Germany after three in France where after making a winning debut at Compiegne she was at a disadvantage on her two other starts in races run with no early pace. In this 2400 metre race the field went at a good pace from the start and under Alexander Pietsch Waldbiene came with a good run in the straight to beat Walkaway and Isfahani, both of whom had been placed in the Preis der Diana in August, by 1 1/2 lengths and a nose.

Waldbiene was one of three Group winners during the weekend for the Haras du Quesnay sire Intello with both Dawn Intello and Bubble Smart winning Group 3’s at ParisLongchamp on September 5th. Waldbiene is the fifth winner from five living foals of racing age produced by her dam Waldjagd including the stakes winner Urwald. Waldbiene was sold as a yearling by the Haras de Saint Pair at the 2019 Arqana August sale for 110.000€ to Panorama Bloodstock. Waldjagd, who has a unraced two year colt by Almanzor and a colt foal by Kingman was sold at the 2020 Arqana December sale for 200.000€ carrying the Kingman colt.
